Zetalif LED

01 Overview

The Zetalif LED induced fluorescence (LEDIF) detectors are sensitive solutions for all separation techniques such as Liquid Chromatography (capillary LC, microLC, nanoLC, UPLC) and Capillary Electrophoresis. A large range of LED wavelengths is available: 275, 365, 450, 480, 530 and 640 nm. Adelis developed this LED-based detector to propose the analysts almost equal sensitivity as laser technology with a significantly reduced cost.

02 Technology

Adelis offers a unique patented collinear optical arrangement making the detector performances unsurpassed.

The key feature of this patented technology is the use of a ball lens in direct contact with a capillary or micro- column, enabling both high fluorescence recovery and ease-of -use. Fluorescence is read directly inside the capillary, without degrading the resolution of the analytical chain. No optical fine tuning is required when changing the capillary.

Moreover, recent upgrade of this unique technology allowed a superb miniaturization of the optical head, linked to the light source and detector by optical fibers. This design makes easy the integration of the detector in any analytical system.

03 About LEDs

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are monochromatic light sources. This makes Zetalif LED detectors highly sensitive compared to detectors based on xenon lamps.

Compared to lasers, wavelength width is wider and the light is not coherent. These features make Zetalif LED detectors a bit less sensitive than Zetalif Laser detectors. The loss of sensitivity will depend on the exact application, it is a two to five-fold decrease in most cases.

LED also offers practical advantages:

  • The LED is completely integrated inside the detector casing
  • Lifetime is very long (>20000 hours) and cost is reduced compared to lasers
  • Energy consumption is reduced too, less than 15W

04 Wavelength - Application

Zetalif LED detectors offer a wide range of LEDs covering various applications fields:

  • 275 nm for amino acids and proteins
  • 365 nm for mono and polysaccharides
  • 450 nm for amino acids, mono and polysaccharides
  • 480 nm for amino acids, DNA/RNA, peptides, oligonucleotides
  • 530 nm for immunoglobulins, IgG, oligonucleotides
  • 640 nm for oligonucleotides

05 Benefits

  • High Sensitivity : 10 times to 100 times greater than conventional fluorescence and up to 100,000 times more sensitive than UV detection
  • Modularity : Adaptable to CE and HPLC systems including Fast-LC, Capillary LC and nano LC
  • Selectivity : Low noise and interference molecules will not be detected, only labeled molecules.
